Lucky readers! I'm in the blogging mood, so here goes. So since this will be my last post before Christmas, I decided to do a Christmas/Wedding entry. Actually, what you are about to read is part of my dad's Christmas gift because I'm a student and that's how it goes. So in one of my classes this last semester I was given the assignment to write a poem about "you". It had to be directly written to someone. So who better to write a poem to then my dad! Yay! I had no intentions of sharing this with anyone other then my professor, but lucky me! he decided to put it on the projector screen in front of the entire class! I was then told by my classmates that I MUST give this to my dad. Anyways, I entitled it:
Your Mustache
You wake me on this weekend morning,
as rays fight through the dusty blinds, whispering
"Today's the day--
my baby's getting married"
Memories flash like clock work,
flooding your heart, my heart, our heart.
As a newborn, I avoided you, your arms, your mustache
always loving mom the best,
but that's normal.
Combing my hair for Sunday School,
watching ringlets bounce, jump, swirl-- like me.
Teaching as Jesus taught:
morals, values, beliefs, and boys,
strung out, a clothesline of importance.
But your favourite, my favourite, our favourite: target practice!
Butterfly kisses, our goodnight ritual
Sending our bedtime prayers to sprinkle my dreams
like the angel on our Christmas tree.
Morning oatmeal with buttered toast,
just me, you, and A&W
Now, Dad, I love you
Your soul, your arms, your mustache.
I hope you enjoyed the poem even though there is only one line that has to do with Christmas. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
PS- Mom, don't forget to show this to Dad. That's kind of the point... :)
