Hey readers! Invitations will be mailed in under 2 weeks!... provided your address is listed on yellowpages.ca... just kidding! I'm so excited to hear back from all my family and friends, and I've already started a spreadsheet organized by name, number of people, and meal choices! Actually, truth is, I really just wanted to use Microsoft Excel. :D So to bottle neck all the sheer excitement into something that might brighten your day, I've written a rap about my wedding planning thus far. I like how I just used thus and rap in the same sentence. Remember to use your best gangsta impression as you read it aloud... that's right: ALOUD. Enjoy!
R-S-V-P! Find Out What it Means to Me! -debut song by W-Dog Future Braun
Half time's gone, gettin' back in the game
The clock is tickin' with no one to blame!
WHAT? Check it.
I got a wedding to plan, that much you know
To-Do List and fiance in tow
No time to waste before the big day
Lots to do and it's almost May!
Favours to build and cakes to bake
Got food to taste and it won't be steak!
Bling to shine and bows to tie
Gotta get it all done or I just might die- Not!
My train's too long and my shoe's too tight
Dresses are ordered, hope they're not too white
So as you see I'm not close to done
And the time flys by like a hit and run!
So try and keep up, hot on my tail
But don't forget, send you RSVP in the mail!
WHAT! Check it.
I heard you. Stick to your day job.
So the final fitting has come and gone as quick as a thought that was incredibly important that you forget as soon as you remember. Wow, say that ten times fast. So to sum up my final dress experience: sub par. It seems as though as soon as a dress shop makes the sale and swipes the Visa, the customer service descends into a vat of UN-awesomeness, just as we watched the fashion era of the 80s plummeted into a great abyss. Obviously, these are two very similar situations :P. Anyways, lucky for me, I did not have to face this alone. Thanks, Renee.
So, as I slip into the dress I notice that the train situation that I thought was being taken care of...was not. Last time, I made it clear that I did NOT want a train, and I wanted the ENTIRE thing removed. The seamstress told me she would leave just a bit because it finishes the dress. Blah Blah Blah. Whatever, that was fine. WELL, apparently, "a bit" means a foot. Lame. So as I stood with Renee debating on whether or not to blow a gasket or calmly accept the excess of fabric, we waited and waited and waited for someone to come by and direct us to a decision. Nope, who would care about a bride and the most important aesthetic aspect of her big day? No big deal.
Finally, the seamstress comes by to see 'how I was doing in my lovely princess dress' (insert British-y accent). "Not good. I'm planning on dragging this through the dirt on a FARM for pictures and dancing the night away. I was hoping the train would be shorter." And so it goes on until we agree on adding a bustle... sigh.
So there you have it. I'm not 100% sure this is my fault or theirs. I let them leave "a bit"; however, I'm kind of undecided. The bustle, I think, will be OK, but I would have rather had it off after the first alteration. Please add your thoughts, maybe some suggestions on what I should do.
Well readers, I hate to disappoint, but the first wave of complete wedding anxiety came in the form of a hurricane today. My life is pretty much as the PEAK OF HECTIC this week, so among other things, wedding priorities has made the stress list :( But may I point out that it is at the bottom, meaning low amounts of stress. My parents and in-laws met with the caterers today, obviously, since I don't live there (also adding to anxious level). I'm glad they could meet with the chef and decide on two very delicious meals. Lemon garlic chicken with wild rice and steamed veggies along with a prime rib and stuffed potato meal. Great choices! They also checked out the hotel rooms at the Pomeroy and were very pleased. So all you out-of-towners: don't worry, we are treating you well! I also have another dress fitting on Saturday. The final one. After that they keep it until April and I bring back when I move home (my new favorite word: home). I have no worries about that actually. So you are wondering right now: What, may I asked, is she so stressed about? I ask myself the same thing. I have a wonderful mother+[in-law] who are happily looking after the details, which all seem to be falling perfectly into place. Maybe it's just the week. Maybe it's the allergies. Maybe it's just school. Maybe I'm just a drama queen. Yup, let's go with all of the above (+/- the last one).
PS- Pray for my sanity :P
I'm well aware that I just updated my blog a few days ago; however, I've got some exciting news to tell you all! Ok, so you know how in the fairy tale of the 'Princess and the Pea', the princess can't sleep on a stack of mattresses because of a teeny weeny pea shoved into the middle? Most people reference my personality similar to hers (meaning extraordinarily picky). So when I received the call on Thursday that my dress had come in a month ahead of schedule, I had some questions and concerns.... NOT! :D Tricked you!
I was beyond excited to try my dress on!
This morning I went in for my first fitting :) When I had purchased the dress they ordered it in a size a half an inch to tight in the rib cage because the next size up was a larger difference; however, when I tried it on, it fit like a glove! YAY So all that's left is some hemming on the bottom and I'm set! My next appointment is in a month or so, then the dress is mine for the taking. Too bad you guys can't see the pictures. Guess you'll just have to wait until August.
PS- It's OK, you can admit that I totally had you fooled into thinking I was high maintenance ;)
Ok, readers! This post is a much needed comic relief from all of our hectic, uncertain lives. I mean it. Take a few minutes out of your day and slap a smile on that stress stretched face of yours. It's time to have some fun. By fun, I mean let's look as some creative, yet sometimes completely disheartening wedding jokes.
To start:
Men wake up as good-looking as when they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night.
Now, we women all know this is completely true. How is it that we can go to bed with perfect hair, crimped eyelashes, and minty fresh breath and wake up well, the opposite of all that? Hmm, good question. If any of you can answer this question, please share your secret with the rest of us.
Next:
A man will pay two-dollars for a one-dollar item he needs, but a woman will pay one-dollar for a two-dollar item that she doesn't need.
Again, all I can say is this is 100% true. I find it incredibly hard to resist a sale. Apparently, when it comes to wedding shopping, shops don't include the word "Sale" in their dictionary. I had no idea how big a small wedding budget had to be!
Thirdly:
What's the difference between in-laws and out-laws?...........Out-laws are wanted!
This joke (although rather humourous) does not apply to me in any way. My future in-laws are great! And if you ask me, every wife/husband marries not only their spouse, but the family as well.
Next:
A little girl at a wedding asked, "Mommy, why do brides always wear white?" The mom replied, "Because they're happy, dear." Halfway through the wedding the girl whispered, "Mommy, if brides wear white because they're happy, then why do men wear black?"
HAHA! I love this joke! Even though it does make it sound like every bride becomes a monster, I think it's got charm!
Finally:
If your wife laughs at your joke, it means you either have a good joke, or a good wife.
My response: Good wife, definitely.
So I hope I've been able to put a smile on your face, whether you were having a good day or a bad one. I heavily believe that laughing is one of the most important parts of your day. Without it, why get up? Why plan a wedding, if you can't have fun, loosen up, laugh? Have a wonderful day everyone!
Happy New Years to my few faithful readers! Time for an update :)
Christmas has been a wonderful break for me filled with relaxation, resolution, and much wedding inspiration! After to returning to the cold, snowy, yet completely wonderful weather, my creative juices began to flow, and I think I've got some great ideas for the big day! Including simplistic program ideas, which will EXCLUDE any sort of bow tying, tab pulling, and/or hot glue guns :D (no offence to those fellow brides who included such ideas...**cough cough Sarah...**cough cough Miranda [I love you both very much minus your programs]). So that's a start, plus, my wonderful event decorator of a mother has also been developing her master plan filled with blue prints of the church and reception hall so that the details of the day will be perfect!
On to invitations: Yes, I'm aware it is incredibly early to be making invitations; however, you must remember I won't be in Fort St. John for half of the engagement, so we decided to get them done now. That way, when they need to be mailed in a few months from now, it will be hassle free! I'm crazy organized... it's ok, I'm not offended.
It was wonderful to join together with a crafty team, which included bridesmaids, future mother-in-laws, friends, family, and even the groom! (Thanks, Ryan!), to make the invitations rather then just ordering them from a print shop. It was a blast even though it kind of resembled a sweat shop. Just to be clear, this job was volunteer basis ONLY... minus the maid of honor because that's her job :).
Since I'll be off to school again soon, I'll have to shove the planning aside and focus on studies, but do NOT fear, the blogging will continue as the wedding plans fall into place! :)
Lucky readers! I'm in the blogging mood, so here goes. So since this will be my last post before Christmas, I decided to do a Christmas/Wedding entry. Actually, what you are about to read is part of my dad's Christmas gift because I'm a student and that's how it goes. So in one of my classes this last semester I was given the assignment to write a poem about "you". It had to be directly written to someone. So who better to write a poem to then my dad! Yay! I had no intentions of sharing this with anyone other then my professor, but lucky me! he decided to put it on the projector screen in front of the entire class! I was then told by my classmates that I MUST give this to my dad. Anyways, I entitled it:
Your Mustache
You wake me on this weekend morning,
as rays fight through the dusty blinds, whispering
"Today's the day--
my baby's getting married"
Memories flash like clock work,
flooding your heart, my heart, our heart.
As a newborn, I avoided you, your arms, your mustache
always loving mom the best,
but that's normal.
Combing my hair for Sunday School,
watching ringlets bounce, jump, swirl-- like me.
Teaching as Jesus taught:
morals, values, beliefs, and boys,
strung out, a clothesline of importance.
But your favourite, my favourite, our favourite: target practice!
Butterfly kisses, our goodnight ritual
Sending our bedtime prayers to sprinkle my dreams
like the angel on our Christmas tree.
Morning oatmeal with buttered toast,
just me, you, and A&W
Now, Dad, I love you
Your soul, your arms, your mustache.
I hope you enjoyed the poem even though there is only one line that has to do with Christmas. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
PS- Mom, don't forget to show this to Dad. That's kind of the point... :)
